Summary: AU In where Tsuna and Xanxus grew up together, watching each
other's back... where innocence was tainted since the start... One Miura Haru
finds herself in a various precarious situation 2786/TsunaxHaru
My lack of KHR knowledge might make some things
untrue or some characters OOC and I guess I'll explain some stuff at the end of
the chapter, just so I won't spoil things! XD
I don't own Katekyo Hitman Reborn because if I
did, there would be a lot more Haru loving!
Please forgive any mistakes, both character-wise
and grammatically wise. lol, i still don't understand the beta system thing and
I don't really have time to re-read and edit things.
AU: Kept my promise!
Updated today! :D
Chapter Five: Politics
HappyFace1886
“Hahi, I wish I can just find out who the
Vongola is already!” Haru yelled, wildly running her fingers through her hair.
She stopped and then whirled around, venomously glaring at a certain man
inching away from her room. “Dante-san!”
He jumped and began to run, but she threw a
pillow at him. It hit the back of his head hard enough for him to stumble,
giving her the time to catch up with him. She grabbed his arm and pulled him
into her room, slamming the door close behind them.
“Haru-chan, I’m sort of busy with work right now
so-.”
“Dante-san!” she repeated. “Tell me right now
everything that you know about Vongola and who that... that pervert is!”
He had never seen her this riled up before.
Haru’s father had often praised her from being even-tempered, especially with
children. It was one of her features that made it easy to get along with her.
However, right now her eyes were aflame and she looked about ready to beat him
to a pulp with one of the pillows in her room.
“Haru-chan, be reasonable.” He said nervously.
“Why is it such a big secret?” she demanded.
“Everyone around Haru seems to know about Vongola, but all refuse to tell her
more about it!”
Haru wasn’t an idiot. She had seen the stares
and had heard the whispers around her. Everyone knew something, but they were
keeping it from her. Even when she had first started trying to investigate the
Vongola, she had asked around, but everyone refused to answer her. It made her
so mad, especially since that pervert was always teasing her while she was
seriously trying to work.
...she paused.
That was it.
That pervert!
He was always around whenever she was trying to
investigate the Vongola Family!
“Dante-san,” she said in a low, frighteningly
calm voice. “Who is that pervert and why is he stopping you from telling Haru
everything?”
Damn it, this girl was sharp. Then again, it was
not by sheer luck that she got into such a prestigious school back in Japan.
That was the only reason why she had been able to attend and exchange student
program during high school. She, out of thousands of applicants, had been
chosen due to her high intelligence, extracurricular activities, and fluency in
Italian.
“Haru-chan,” he began.
“Don’t try and reason with me, I have a right to
know!” he gulped. When she spoke in first person, it sounded really
frightening. “For days, I’ve endured being harassed by that jerk so spill it
right now!”
Dante became quiet, silently evaluating her
before sighing. Haru loosened her hold on his shirt and took a step back,
waiting for his explanation. However, before he could even begin, there was a
knock on the door. Haru steamed at the sudden intrusion and wanted to yell out,
but the knock sounded very urgent.
“Dante,” someone spoke in Italian. “It’s an
emergency.”
“What is it?”
“It’s classified, but you’re required to return
to headquarters right now.”
Haru eyes bugged out. “Headquarters? Dante-san,
are you a part of Vongola?”
He laughed nervously. “Um... that is...”
“Dante!” the man outside yelled, slamming his
palm against the wooden door. The walls shook and small pieces of debris fell
from the ceiling. Haru gaped at the door. Who the heck was behind it to have
made the house shake like that? Dante, however, seemed to have realized the
severity of the situation.
“Stay here,” he sternly ordered Haru. “Don’t
leave this building. I know you’re stubborn and strong willed, but if it’s an
emergency, it’s better to be safe than sorry. I won’t allow you, who’s under my
protection, to get hurt. Not to mention...” Dante shook his head and grabbed
the door handle. “Just stay put, alright?”
“Dante-san!” she yelled, but he was already out
the door. Haru was about to follow when she heard a resounding click. She
stared at the door in outrage, knowing she had just been locked in. “Dante-san!”
Haru angrily marched up to the door and kicked
it for all its worth, only to wince, tears gathering in her eyes, as the pain
shot up from her toes. She hopped around stupidly, clutching her foot, while
angrily cursing Dante-san and the pervert.
Just what the heck was going on?
“What’s the purpose of the meeting?” Reborn
asked while following Tsuna from behind. They walked down the marble corridor,
their footsteps muffled due to the red carpet. Tall, imposing statues
surrounded them, looking fierce as it represented the home it was within.
“I’ve just received confirmation that the Shimon
Family is on the rise,” he replied calmly, the expression on his face never
straining as he was in the impassive form of Hyper Will mode. Even within the
walls of his own people, he couldn’t remain calm. For a brief moment, he missed
Haru, how he could simply relax and tease her without worry. However, he
brushed those feelings away. Now wasn’t the time.
The discovery of the antagonism of the Shimon
Family had begun several years ago and the hatred those people had towards the
Vongola were powerful. Tsuna had only met the leader of the Shimon once and the
incident had been catastrophic, causing the death of several dozen men from
both sides. Tsuna had then begun to learn bits and pieces of the Shimon
Family’s past and while their hatred was understandable, it wasn’t acceptable.
And he would find a way to put an end to them.
Permanently.
“What are you going to do?” Reborn inquired.
Tsuna was surprised by the question. “Take them
down, obviously.”
Reborn’s face was hard to see since he was much
shorter than Tsuna, but even if he had been equal height, Tsuna wouldn’t have
been able to see his expression due to how Reborn had tilted his head downward,
his black fedora hat shadowing over his face. The child-assassin clutched onto
the edge of his hat, his lips thinning into a grim line. “Is that the only
possible answer that comes to you?”
Two-toned eyes glanced downward. “What are you
trying to say?”
However, Reborn merely sighed dismally. “It was
too early to bring you into this world.”
“You keep saying that,” Tsuna said, but the
irritation he had was well hidden. The only sign of his aggravation was the
slight knitting of his eyebrows. He didn’t press on for answers since he knew
Reborn wouldn’t give him one. Instead, he strode over towards the tall,
foreboding doors.
The two men stationed there straightened their
backs at the sight of their young leader and greeted him before pressing a
button that allowed for the doors to automatically open.
Within the room was marble glass floors and
their footsteps clicked noticeably. There were already several people stationed
there, all hidden within the darkness of the dimly lit room. Tsuna walked over
to his place at the head of the long table and remained standing before them
all.
“Welcome all,” he spoke in their native
language. There was a small murmur as they responded to him. Though Tsuna had
not inherited the Vongola in all its entirety, the Vongola Nono had selected
him to handle the situation with the Shimon Family. Many saw this as an exam to
test his worthiness as the head of the family. “The meeting has been assembled
in order to talk of the Shimon Familiy.”
The louder murmur rippled through the room and
Tsuna noticed Xanxus’ stoic figure in the corner of the room. His eyes glowed
through the darkness, watching him carefully. Though they may have grown up
with each other, Tsuna knew without a doubt that Xanxus would turn on him if he
didn’t agree with whatever Tsuna was planning. They would watch each other’s
backs during times of battle, but they would never show the other their backs
in the first place.
“What is the plan you have in mind, Decimo?”
someone from the side asked.
“We will wait for the Shimon Family to strike
first.” He stated. “We have been patient and forgiving all these years, but no
more. The moment they approach us, we will stop their assault quickly and effectively,
to show to them how fruitless their attempts are. Thus, until the moment comes,
every member of this family and our brothers will remain constantly vigilant.
We will not lose a single man or woman to the Shimon.”
Tsuna waited for the small statements of assent
and wasn’t disappointed. These old fogies had too much pride over the Vongola
and he knew that they wouldn’t allow forth any more disgraces. The attacks by
the Shimon had generally been on neutral or unclaimed land, but last night’s
attack had been on Vongola territory.
That was a silent declaration of war.
“Let them try to hurt us with their feeble
attacks,” Tsuna continued, feeding onto their egos. “We need to make the world,
not just the Shimon, understand that they are no match for Vongola. The Shimon
will provide a perfect example for everyone.”
Silence...
What Tsuna was calling for effective and yet
merciless. He was proposing to utterly obliterating the Shimon, to render them
to complete pieces in order to prove to the world of the terrible might of the
Vongola. The respect the ancient organization had was still strong, but their
heir was young. It would be easy for people to undermine them due to Tsuna’s
age, no matter how powerful he was said to be.
But with this, no one would be able to say a
thing... especially if it was all done with Tsuna’s own hands and his people.
This meeting was not to call for the other
powers of the Vongola. This was a proclamation being made by Tsuna saying he
and his Guardians will handle this case alone.
From the corner of Tsuna’s eyes, he saw Xanxus
smirking.
“Where are the Guardians?” a man asked quietly.
“They are on their way over here,” he replied
smoothly. “Yamamoto and Ryohei have finished with their job in Japan and Hibari
is already finished in Germany. I’ve made contact with Mukuro and he has agreed
to come here. Gokudera is in Austria and will be here soon. Once they have all
arrived, the mission will begin.”
“Are you confident you will be able to deal with
this situation?” someone asked skeptically. Tsuna turned his gaze on him,
knowing that many people were unnerved about his eyes. It was the same eyes of
the Primo and the implications of that were heavy. He always made sure to take
advantage of that, knowing that it made it easier to put people in their place.
“I mean no disrespect, we all simply wish to protect the status of the
Vongola.”
Tsuna vaguely heard Xanxus snorting in
disbelief. However, Tsuna played on the charming smile, the low charismatic
grin while he lowered himself, pressing his hand against the table. It made him
look as though he was crouching, ready to ambush on the prey that had dared to
challenge him. “Last night I easily handled the men who intruded upon our
territory, men who should have been taken care of by the Southern district’s
guards.”
As usual, his intuition had been correct. The
man in charge of the southern facilities had been the one to speak. Despite the
lighting, Tsuna could see the flush of his face and heard the embarrassed
coughs that bordered choking.
The meeting with the officials of Vongola had
merely been due to formality, but it was to also serve as a warning. Tsuna was
to be their leader and he would show them his power. He was well aware of how
many disapproved of him despite all these years of training and all the times
he had proven his strength and leadership.
To them, he was still an outcast, the child from
Japan who only had a small connection to the bloodline. It didn’t matter that
he was a direct descendant from the Primo of Vongola. Nothing mattered because
to them, he was an outsider.
But by ending the Shimon, that would all end as
well.
Tsuna didn’t give a damn of what they thought of
him, but he would never allow them to push him out of here due to petty
prejudices. He loved his grandfather and knew of the importance of this
organization to him and many good people. But he would not allow himself to be
push out of what was rightfully his, especially when he had the ability to make
it even greater than its current status.
Let them hate him. That wouldn’t dispel the fact
that they respected him. He was also aware that these people truly adored the
Vongola. If they saw him as someone who could lead them to greatness, to hell
with their dislike of him. They were foolish at times, but they always went for
the good of Vongola. His grandfather and Tsuna knew of this. That was why they
were trusted and relied upon.
It made things tedious sometimes as he would
have to endure their idiocy, but it also made things amusing whenever they
would silently cower under his strength.
“If there are those who wish to participate in
the plan to handle the Shimon, please speak up now. Help will not be denied.”
Tsuna said smoothly, slowly rising up, letting his words sink in. He knew no
one would speak up. Normally providing aid would seem like the right thing to
do, but right now, it would seem more like an insult, as though they doubted
his abilities. “If none, this meeting is adjourned. Once the Guardians have
gathered... the hunt will begin.”
However, there was still time before they would
all arrive...
Tsuna hid his anticipation, watching with hooded
eyes as he carefully observed the men before him. Impatience clung to him as he
urgently wanted to get back to Haru, but he had enough self-control to keep
himself in check. The people here still had useless questions and wouldn’t
leave for a few hours until they were satisfied by his explanations.
Besides, Tsuna’s eyes shifted to meet Xanxus’,
it looked like there was someone who wanted to talk.
