Notes

My first post on tumblr! It's the drafted sequel to 'Bargain' for Giotto x Haru that I didn't like how it turned out. I know a few were curious and now I finally have a platform to post my incompleted or 'drafted/discarded' work! :) Hopefully I'll have time to post other incompleted work or any work that I have written, but didn't have any plans on actually posting on my blog.

As for my current WIP, I'm currently working on Ambigram!

Genesis: Chapter 10

HappyFace1886

Giotto’s arms were wrapped tightly around Haru, his head resting on her lap. Night had ascended and the dark cabin was alighted by the fireplace that crackled with warmth that filled the room. Haru leaned against the head of the bed frame, one hand comfortingly against Giotto’s back.  After the tense incident regarding the bunnies, there had been an awkwardness that Haru found hard to describe.

For the rest of the day, it was like he was afraid to touch her.

It wasn’t until they were in bed that he seemed to unconsciously cling to her. His expression had been distressed and it wasn’t until they were in the position they were currently in did he seem to be able to relax, falling into a more comfortable sleep.

Sitting in front of her was Attilio who was sipping out of a cup filled with hot tea.

“Foolish girl,” he scolded, placing the cup down. “Getting yourself in too deep.”

How ironic that Giotto’s Japanese was now far better than the one who had learned first. It just went to show just how advanced Giotto’s abilities were.

“What happened to Giotto-sama in the past?” she softly inquired.

“The boy did not tell you,” he said the words as a statement, meaning he wasn’t going to tell her anything. If Giotto didn’t tell her, he wasn’t going to tell her. It made Haru simmer with impatience, but she didn’t want to push it too much lest Attilio’s dislike of her grew. “Why curious?”

“Because I care for him,” she said sincerely, hoping that if he saw how much she truly meant this, he would tell her something. However, the older man’s expression was impassive, watching her with sharp green eyes that made her want to look away.

“Petty feelings.”

“What do you mean?” unconsciously, Haru clenched her fist onto the back of Giotto’s shirt.

“You do not know the truth.” Attilio took a sip of his tea. “That’s why no fear.”

“I won’t run,” she said with fierce determination. Haru had learned from her trip to the future. And after bonding and growing close to Giotto-sama, there was no way she was going to abandon him when he was troubled by something. “Tell me.”

“The boy will,” Attilio simply stated as he stood up from his seat, leaving behind the steaming cup of tea. Before he entered his room for the night, he left her the following words of wisdom. “Don’t make promises you can’t keep...” the rest of the sentence came unspoken in an ominous manner.

Or else the boy will break.

Allowing the girl to live with them had been a bad idea. Attilio had known this, but he hadn’t been able to fight against the boy. Those unnerving two-toned eyes had flashed with passion and determination, speaking much more strongly than the words he had been spouting.

...if Attilio had made a stronger fight, the boy would have rebelled just to keep the girl. It would have strained their relationship and would have maybe even caused the boy to disappear. And that Attilio couldn’t allow.

Now it was too late. He couldn’t get rid of the girl even if he tried. The boy would find a way to keep her safe and protected.

Those thoughts haunted Attilio, preventing him from having a good night’s rest. Instead, he was up in the crack of dawn, much earlier than when the sun was up. He slowly wore the clerical clothing, taking his time to put on every clip and button. His shoulders sagged with exhaustions due to lack of sleep, but he still needed to perform his duty.

He entered the main room and stilled at the sight of the two children cuddling each other. With any other children, it would have seemed endearing since they were holding each other as though they were the other’s life line. Instead, a chill went down Attilio’s spine and he frowned.

“I won’t let you take her away from me,” Giotto spoke smoothly, not even bothering to open his eyes as he held onto Haru tightly.

Attilio was at first startled at how Giotto was awake, but he quickly recovered. With a wry grin, he placed on his black hat. “I know.”

“Do they know of her existence?” he inquired.

“Not yet,” Attilio replied as he headed towards the front door. “But they will soon.”

“Att-.”

“It is out of my hand,” Attilio replied bluntly, his back faced to Giotto who, by now, had sat up from the bed. “And now you must decide just how precious this girl is to you.”

“Haru...” Giotto looked down at the slumbering girl, their hand still joined together. His eyes softened and then he remembered how she had trembled against him yesterday because of what he did. “Haru is very precious to me...”

“If you wish to protect her, then you must let her go. She isn’t safe with you.”

The mere possibility of being separated from Haru sent a flash of pain through Giotto and he gave Attilio an incredulous look. However, Giotto knew that Attilio had a point and it caused him to look away. Haru would be much safer if she was away from him, perhaps at a proper church filled with other people.

But...

The sweetness of her smile...

The innocent and sincere kindness...

Could he actually live without all that? These last few weeks had spoiled him rotten, allowing him to feel a warmth and softness that had been missing in his life for so long. Would he be able to survive without feeling any of those again? And even if he was to be another person, it would be different.

They wouldn’t be Haru...

But if she was near him, she would get hurt. Even if he was to use all of his abilities, it would be impossible to leave her unscathed.

The world was just too vast and he was just too weak.

Then suddenly, he was reminded of the steel hard resolution in her eyes. Even when he had forced the ugliness of the world to her face, she hadn’t let it get under her skin. She remained true to her belief and looked at him square in his eyes, the same eyes that had made many look away in disgust, fear, and hatred.

Giotto then slowly smiled, a soft smile that he reserved for Haru only. “I won’t let Haru go.”

“Then you have sealed her fate.” Attilio spoke a bit harsher than before, his head slightly tilted so that he could look at Giotto.

The smile on Giotto’s face then faded, replaced by a cold calculative look that resembled the face of the Primo of the Vongola he was to be. “Haru is much stronger than she looks. She won’t leave me... and I won’t let her leave either.”

AU: I remember reading once about how Reborn had commented that Haru had the resolve of a mafia member. I think when she was in the future, it was because she was overwhelmed since she was young that it made her get frantic like that like that... and baka Tsuna didn't help, making her cry and all that. However, in the end, she does have a strong resolution, especially for the people she cares about. Hence the reason why she's so firm and unyielding when it comes to Giotto. She wants to help him him no matter what.

Genesis: Chapter 09

HappyFace1886

“Haru,” brown eyes looked inquisitively to the side from where she had been dipping her sore feet in the river. Golden hair peeked from the green bushes. Giotto’s lack of movement and the hushed tone he used to call out to her made her extra cautious, walking slowly and quietly to where he was.

It was good thing that her dress camouflaged easily with her surroundings.

“The green one this time?” Haru asked as she took the dress Giotto handed her. She still didn’t understand why he wanted to choose her clothes, but when she asked, he’d just give her a playful yet bashful smile before proclaiming he’ll wait outside for her.

“It looks pretty on Haru.” He remarked and much to Haru’s delight, she didn’t turn red this time. Instead, she gave him a bemused tilt of her head.

“But Giotto-sama always says I look pretty no matter what I wear.” She explained, unfolding the clothes to look at it properly. It was a simple green dress with a white belt with a ribbon stitched on the waist area. Something comfortable and easy to move around for their daily hikes.

“This is the dress I want to see Haru in today.” He explained patiently and though she still didn’t fully understand his motives for this, the way he looked at her hopefully made it impossible for her to say no.

Hm, maybe his keen intuition helped him predict the future where she’ll have to blend in with her surroundings... that’s why he chose green? The thought almost made her giggle though. Hyper intuition didn’t mean being able to predict the future. However, Giotto-sama had a way of making her feel as though he really could predict the future sometimes.

That thought made another question pop into her head.

Was Giotto-sama trained so that he could properly utilize his hyper intuition?

That seemed unlikely since he didn’t understand the implications behind the color of his eyes.

Hahi, this was just all so confusing! There were so many unanswered questions and it was impossible to just ask Giotto-sama everything. He seemed keen on having his privacy and while Haru respected that, it made everything so hard to understand.

“Be careful,” Giotto warned as he held his hand out for Haru to grab. He steadied her so that she could soundlessly crouch on the ground. She turned her head in the direction he was staring at and felt her curiosity turn to glee.

Rabbits!

Lots and lots of rabbits!

Many of them baby rabbits!

“So cute,” she cooed with delights. From the side, Giotto’s eyes warmed at the sight of her smiling. Since her arrival, he had been eager to show her everything about this forest he had grown up around, but oftentimes it had been places he found fun and nice. He knew she wasn’t as fit as him and had a hard time following him, but she never complained.

“I knew Haru would like to see them,” Giotto remarked softly. And it was just lucky for him that he noticed the rabbits running about nearby.

Haru nodded eagerly, not taking her eyes off of the fluffy adorableness. “I love animals. Next to babies, they’re one of the cutest things in the world.”

“Babies?” he echoed, blinking his eyes. She turned to look at him, giving him the happiest smile he had ever seen her give thus far.

“Yes, babies are so adorable!” she said in a muted squeal. “They still need guidance and protection in this world because they’re still vulnerable. Their bodies are tiny and yet their eyes are so big and innocent. I just want to smother them with hugs.”

By now, Haru was speaking more rapidly than she usually did around Giotto, too caught up in her enthusiasm. However, the gist of her words seemed to reach him. Instead of the usual amused smile he would give her whenever she became caught up in something she was passionate about, the beam on Giotto’s face seemed to fade a bit.

“But they can’t stay children forever.” He murmured quietly, almost to himself.

“Hahi?” Haru stopped in midway, looking at him confused.

“The day will come when they’re stripped of the innocence,” he continued in a flat tone Haru had never heard him speak in before. “They will learn of hatred and fear. They will have no qualms in isolating those they do not like and killing anyone and anything that gets in their way.”

“Gi-.” She began, but stopped when she faintly heard a rustle in a nearby bush. It was so silent that it hadn’t disturbed even the vigilante rabbits. Haru had only noticed because Giotto had tightened his grip on her hand, his gaze staring beyond from the animals on the ground.

A fox.

Her mind clicked in realization as she looked at the rabbits.

The fox was looking for a meal.

Before she could even consider moving, Giotto’s arm shot out and wrapped around her. He pulled her close to him so that her back was against his chest, his lips whispering into her ear. “Don’t.”

“But-.” She looked at the rabbits who seemed oblivious to their predator just several feet away.

“There’s no point in trying to save them.” He kept her still, his hand still holding onto hers. “If you save them, then what of the fox? Will you deprive her of her meal? What if she has kits? Will you spare the rabbits to kill them instead?”

The fox had lowered its stance further, the glint in its eyes showing that it was going to pounce any second now.

“Giotto-sama,” she rushed with an urgent hiss, but he wasn’t done.

“This is life, Haru.” The monotony of his voice made Haru shiver and as if to provide some measure of comfort, he brushed his cheek against her. His eyes, however, remained hard and merciless as he watched the fox then pounce at the rabbits.

The weak would be devoured by the strong.

The world wasn’t so compassionate as to provide shelter to those who could not withstand the reality of it all. Only those with power and the skills to survive would be the winners in the end.

When the blood was shed by the fox and several rabbits laid dead, he felt Haru trembling within his hold.

She was weak, that was a fact. If he hadn’t found her those weeks ago, as she had stated herself, she would be dead.

However, he wouldn’t allow that to happen.

She was under his protection.

He wouldn’t let a single thing happen to her.

The fox seemed to notice their presence and turned its attention to them. It was crouched low, the fur on its back standing on its end. The blood smeared on the fox’s paws and mouth gave it a savage look, its fangs barred and ready to defend its kill.

But one look of his glowing eyes that showed off a warning and the fox tucked its ears back, grabbing as much of its kill as it quickly could before running off.

“It’s over now, Haru,” he murmured. Somewhere in between, she had turned her head and buried it into his neck. He didn’t want to have to shove the truth to her face, but it needed to be done. Even if he wanted to protect her innocence, the world wasn’t kind. But it would be okay, because he-.

“It’s different,” she whispered, her words brushing against his neck. The heat of her breath almost made it seem as though she was searing her words into his skin. “Humans are different from animals of the wild.”

It startled him. How could she still say that after he had forced her to accept her helplessness? And yet when he pulled away slightly, he could see the steel-hard determination in her eyes.

She still believed in those naïve lies!

“Haru-.”

“The world isn’t just black and white.” She said gently. What could he have possibly gone through to make him have such a jaded view in life? “There are those who are cruel, but then there are those innocent from the hatred and anger.”

“That’s not true,” he said. “Everyone has evil in them.”

“Even me, Giotto-sama?” she might as well have hit him since he was now staring at her wide eyed. “And if this is a world that’s truly just survival of the fittest, then I would have died a long time ago. I-.”

“Haru is mine,” he rushed in an almost viciously protective tone. “I will never allow you to get hurt.”

It was clear that Giotto was no longer in control with himself. The famous self-control he was known for as an adult still hadn’t developed. He was still young and his emotions were running rampant inside of him. This topic they were on was undoubtedly bringing back unpleasant memories of the past that were haunting him.

His words, however, startled Haru. There was no time for her to contemplate the meaning behind it as she saw the pain in his face, how he was struggling to stop the flux of emotions.

“And I will never allow Giotto-sama to get hurt.” She replied gently, reaching up to hug him. “I won’t be able to do as good a job as you, but if you were to get hurt, I promise I’ll be there to pick up the pieces.”

He froze under her hold, but seemed to slowly relax, his arms reaching out to wrap around her. Whether her words reached him or not, she didn’t know, and most likely, he was still clinging onto his pessimistic views in life.

But that didn’t matter at the moment.

There was resolution in Haru’s eyes. She had truly been willing to wait for Giotto to open up to her in his own pace, but she needed to know what was wrong if she was to be able to help him.

It didn’t matter that Giotto was to be the future Primo of Vongola. In fact, it was getting easier to forget the connection between him and the Primo because he was so different from the one she was used to hearing about.

This was Giotto.

The sweet boy who was obviously suffering from some traumatic incident in the past...

And she was going to find a way to save him no matter what.

AU: I had various ideas when it came to how Haru would deal with the fox situation because every possibility seemed plausible, whether it was her saving the bunnies or just letting it happen. In the end, I decided with sacrificing the bunnies to show the difference between animals and humans. I'm not even going to start on the whole idea of how animals and humans aren't actually all that different from each other because I'm a huge animal lover, but I felt like it was needed in this case.

Anyways, gah, I feel like this is the worst thing I've ever written. @x@ hope you guys like it though. I kept writing and re-writing this thing because I wasn't happy with the results, but this chapter is necessary in order to move along with the story. I think the thing that irks me the most is that I don't know what's canon and so I have to make stuff up on my own.

Genesis: Chapter 08

HappyFace1886

“Here Haru, try this too!” Giotto said, handing her the yellow dress. His eyes were glowing with such delight that Haru couldn’t bear to turn him down. With an amused smile, she took the dress. It was a simple one piece with floral patterns near the hem. The end of it came to her knees and there were no sleeves.

Haru knew better than to use the clothing Attilio had given her to judge what era she was exactly in. The clothes were obviously donated and were most likely out of fashion. She didn’t mind though. Be it plain or overly flamboyant, she trusted her sewing skills enough to mend anything that looked overly outrageous. Fortunately, all of them looked relatively normal.

Still, who would’ve thought that the one who would grow up to be the revered and proud Vongola Primo would have such an interest in dressing her up?

“Giotto-sama, what are you doing?” Haru inquired, looking confused at how the blonde haired boy was staring with such intense focus at the bag of clothes Attilio had given her.

“Many different outfits,” he remarked with a frown.

Haru paused, trying to figure out what he meant by this other than the obvious. It was true that Attilio and Giotto didn’t have much variety when it came to their own clothing. For the two of them, their clothes were mostly focused on simple, comfortable ones. It was actually quite kind of Attilio to provide her with so many different types of attires, especially since she didn’t have anyone to show them to and most of them got ripped or dirty because of how she’d venture out into the forest with Giotto.

“It’s different for girls,” Haru explained patiently, dragging the bag until it was between the two of them. “Girls need many clothes to look pretty.”

He tilted his head, unable to process her explanation. “But Haru is already pretty.”

She couldn’t stop the blush and ended up shyly looking at the bag, trying not to let his words affect her too much. He was just being innocent and silly again, spouting words with no deeper meaning in them. “T-Thank you... B-But not everyone would agree so girls use things like clothes to make themselves look prettier.”

“Why?” he inquired and Haru smiled wryly at him.

“Well,” she began slowly. During her time here so far, she had come to terms that Giotto was very innocent about certain aspects of society. It was another thing she had noted, how often he would spend time in the forest. So far, she had never seen him enter town. The only one to do so was Attilio. “Sometimes it’s because it helps us feel good. Then there’s how everyone will judge us if we’re not dress nicely. And... I guess... one of the more common reasons would be because we want to find a boyfriend.”

He knitted his eyebrows, looking at her in pure curiosity. “Boyfriend? A friend that’s a boy? Am I Haru’s boyfriend?”

She almost choked on her own saliva.

Okay, the topic was heading towards a direction where it could go very drastically wrong! Gods, please, please, please let Giotto at least know what the birds-and-bees was! Though remembering their initial bath incident, she had no idea of knowing what was going on in his head. He could very much know and not care or didn’t know anything at all.

“Er.. Boyfriend is a potential husband?” she supplied weakly, her courage faltering at his eager-to-learn eyes. “S-Sometimes, girls dress up in order to impress a boy they like... hoping that the boy will like what they wear so that he’ll choose them as a bride.”

Giotto became quiet, staring at the array of clothes thoughtfully. He then pulled out the blue one Haru had worn the other day, running his hand through the material before he placed it neatly to the side. His eyes then lit up as he pulled out another dress, a light pink one with small white spots on it. “Haru, try this!”

“Hahi?” she took the dress from him in bemusement.

“Please try, Haru.” He asked again with a charming smile. “I want to see you in it.”

And that was what had led to their little fashion show.

Giotto was normally antsy to be outside, to surround himself with the sunlight and sounds of nature. Today, however, he seemed content with being inside and watching her in various different dresses. Sometimes a huge grin would appear on his face, indicating he particularly liked that outfit, and other times there would be a simple cheerful smile that looked very content.

It always amazed Haru whenever she saw Giotto like this. And try as she might not to do so, she always found herself comparing him to the man he will become. He was written in the books to be kind, something he was even now, but that he was distant from others, keeping his space, and rarely showing a smiling face.

Yet here she was, constantly showered by what was said to be a rare occurrence.

She came out wearing the last dress of the pile, a pure white one that seemed to cover her form quite modestly. It came all the way down to her ankles and was sleeveless. Little white beads decorated the dress here and there, giving her a formal appearance that one normally had during fancy parties.

“What do you think?” she asked, giving him a playful twirl.

The look on Giotto’s face was unreadable as he got up from the bed where he had been watching the entire time. The house that they resided in had two rooms. The only bedroom was Attilios’ while she and Giotto shared the bed in the living room area right next to the kitchen. The two weren’t allowed in Attilio’s room and so, Haru had created a curtain made out of unused blankets to change clothes from behind.

Haru waited, wondering what sort of reaction he’d give her this time as he circled her once. He was so unpredictable, so unlike how she’d imagine, that she was always taken by surprise by whatever he did.

“Haru is very beautiful.” Giotto said as he stopped in front of her and this time, unlike the normally huge bright grins he’d give her, this smile was soft and gentle. “I like it.”

She ducked her to avoid looking at his piercing two-toned eyes, her hands nervously tugging at the strands of hair on the back of her neck. “Thank you.”

Her heart was pounding in her chest. The way he was looking at her was different from all the times he had looked at her before. Haru had seen his looks of amusement, contentment, and joy. So what was this intense stare that seemed to be trying to swallow her whole?

“I-I should change back,” she rushed so that she wouldn’t have to focus on him. His presence was so strong and noticeable that it was turning her brain to mush. Haru was about to pick up the dress she had been originally wearing when Giotto handed her the yellow dress he had given her before. “Hahi?”

“Wear this one,” he said eagerly, placing the neatly folded dress in her hand.

Haru looked at him in confusion. In her other hand was the light beige dress she had been originally wearing. She glanced at the beige one and then at the yellow one. “What-.”

“I like this one better,” he said with a carefree grin, the infectious one that always had her smiling in the end as well.

She blinked dubiously before taking the dress from him. “Okay.”

“I’ll wait outside!” he chirped happily before heading out the door.

Haru looked at where he had disappeared off to and then the dress he had handed her.

What was that about?

Chapter Sixteen: Realizations

HappyFace1886

“Let’s ride it again!” Haru said excitedly, her eyes gleaming with anticipation as she looked at the dangerously wild rollercoaster they had just gotten off. From behind, Tsuna was looking green, about ready to throw up any minute now. He may have experience flying around, but that rollercoaster was just insane.

A few meters away from them, Gokudera was in a similar boat. That damn crazy girl, taking Decimo on such a crazy ride! Hell, even he was feeling sick. His stomach lurched and Gokudera leaned against the street lamp, clutching his stomach as he tried to prevent it from emptying its content.

“H-Haru, let’s take a break.” Tsuna tried to persuade, unable to get the feeling back in his legs.

“Hahi, is Tsuna-san okay?” she asked in concern, realizing how he was staggering behind her. The rollercoaster did make at least four flips and had three large dips. If she looked around, she could see other causalities of this ride... including that black capped man with the sunglasses who needed support just to stand upright.

“Just fine,” he said with a weak grin, slumping down to sit on a nearby bench. “I-I just think we should take this nice and slow.”

Haru tilted her head and then nodded with a smile. “Okay! Is there anything else Tsuna-san wants to ride?”

Tsuna could just weep at that question. In all honesty, the marathon of dangerous rollercoaster riding had been his fault.

The silence was tense and filled with an awkwardness that had them both fidgeting. Someone needed to start talking. It could be about anything! The weather! The shape of the clouds! Heck, as of this point, Tsuna wouldn’t have minded if they started talking about Haru’s relationship with Hibari.

He frowned, his mood darkening slightly at the possibility.

On second thought, he didn’t want to think about the cold Prefect at all. This was his time with Haru and he didn’t want it to be interrupted with topics concerning another guy.

B-But the tension was so pervading that it was making his head hurt.

“Tsuna-san-.”

“Haru-.”

The two spoke and turned to look at each other at the same time, the rest of their words melting away as they looked into each other’s eyes. Their faces flushed and the two immediately looked away shyly.

Haru wanted to hit herself on the head. She was the one who wanted to go on this date with him! Besides, in the past, she had no problem taking charge and clinging onto him. What made things different now?

She would’ve heaved out a heavy sigh if it wouldn’t have attracted Tsuna-san’s attention. A lot of things have changed, actually. Especially since a certain round headed jerk was now so involved with her life. The rules had been drastically changed and Haru found herself unable to act her usual self around Tsuna-san.

Besides, he liked Kyoko-chan and that reality is the reason why she had asked him out here in the first place.

“N-Neh, Tsuna-san?” Haru stammered out. “What should we ride first?”

“E-Eh?” Tsuna jumped, his eyes widening like a deer that had been caught by the headlights. Her question seemed to reach him and he began to wildly look around, as if to hurry and answer her so that he would be out of the spotlight. “That one!”

Haru stared wide eyed, her shyness disappearing as she looked at where Tsuna was pointing. “That one?”

Tsuna looked at her confused and glanced at where he was pointing at, feeling the blood draining from his face quickly at the mere name of the ride.

The Super-Incredible-Extraterrestrial-Jaw-Dropping-Stomach-Killing-Thriller.

But wait, Haru-chan was a girl. Maybe she was afraid of those types of rides?

He looked at her hopefully only to feel despair when he saw the sparkle in her eyes. With a cheerful cry, Haru grabbed Tsuna by the arm and proceeded to drag him to the end of the line. “Let’s hurry while the line’s short! Maybe we can ride it a second time too! Oh, or maybe we can ride the Neuron Destroyer next!”

Tsuna wanted to protest. He really did. But the excitement in Haru’s face was just too cute that he could only stumble along with her, his tongue having twisted itself into a knot at the sight of just how happy she was.

Tsuna glanced at Haru. At least she was still smiling. The previous tension was gone and now she seemed relax, almost like her old self. The only difference was that instead of clinging onto him like before, she was sitting with a respectable amount of space in between them.

“Thank you for coming out here with Haru,” she began quietly and he looked at her in surprise. “Haru knows that Tsuna-san probably didn’t want to come, but-.”

“No, I don’t mind!” he rushed, not liking where this topic was heading. It was going to make things awkward again and the last thing he wanted was for her to be sad. He wanted to see her smile again... and he really didn’t want to ride another killer rollercoaster just to see it again.

Haru smiled. “Tsuna-san is so kind, just as Haru had always said.”

Her compliment made him blush and he looked down at the ground sheepishly, one hand rubbing the back of his neck.

“And that’s what I’ve always liked about you, Tsuna-san.”

Hiding behind the trunk of a large tree, Gokudera spied at the two with growing agitation. What were they talking about? It was hard to see with all the people walking by and because the two were just so damn close to each other! That stupid woman, how dare she act so loosely around the Decimo?

But it was so like the Decimo not to get taken in by her charm!

In fact, if it had been him that was in the Decimo’s position, he wouldn’t have been able to keep his hands-.

The line of thought was abruptly put to a halt and Gokudera looked as though he had been struck by lightening.

His hands...

What about his hands?

Where had his train of thought been going?!

A mixture of horror and amazement filled him, all the strength from his body escaping him as he stumbled backwards. He ended up pressed against the trunk of another tree, sliding to the floor while staring at Decimo and the stupid woman, Haru, from afar.

“You have got to be kidding me!” he yelped.

Her words made the redness on Tsuna’s face grow darker. His heart was pounding hard in his chest and this time, the weakness he felt in his body wasn’t because of the rollercoaster. It was because of the words she spoke and the way she was looking away so demurely.

Haru had never looked this way to him before. In fact, the last time he regarded someone as this cute had been Kyoko... and yet, why was he feeling like this around Haru?

Maybe it’s because lately her attention seemed to be somewhere else. He had always been the main focus for her, always showered by attention and care from Haru. However, she had disappeared for a great length of time and he hadn’t known why. And, to his great displeasure and shock, he realized that he didn’t even know where she lived to be able to go and see if she was doing alright.

Just how much had he neglected her?

Since she was always there, he had never had to think much about it. Haru was Haru and she would never leave him.

And yet, the grim reality had hit him when he learned that Haru was involved with Hibari. Tsuna knew he wasn’t the only one shocked by this since Hibari was known for being a loner and shouldn’t have had much contact with anyone except his subordinates, much less someone so bright and bubbly like Haru.

“Tsuna-san,” she continued, clenching her fingers tightly. Oh gods, was she trembling? This was nothing like the times when she had so proudly told Tsuna-san that she would marry him and become part of the mafia. Maybe it was because she had said it light-heartedly. It was true that she had a crush on him and it did seem like it grew into something more... but saying such daring proclamations was nothing when the future was so far away. “I-.”

But the possible future was now here.

Life had gotten so much more serious.

Tsuna saw how white her knuckles were and didn’t need his hyper intuition to know that whatever Haru was going to say was going to change things between them. And something told him that this change wasn’t going to be good.

Would he simply allow that to happen?

Things seemed like they were going good between them, whatever this thing between them was. He also got to see her often now since she came over to his home to ‘train’.

He couldn’t have both Kyoko and Haru... but the prospect of losing Haru made his chest tighten, similarly in the way it had done so when he had learned about Haru and Hibari’s involvement together.

Shit, this was happening too quickly.

When Haru had invited him out, he had never expected things to get so complicated so fast.

“I-.”

“No!” came a loud yell from behind. Tsuna grabbed Haru by the shoulder, pulling her to him as he sensed someone coming at them. Holding her close against him, he looked up at the potential threat and felt his eyes bug out.

“Gokudera-kun?” Tsuna sputtered out.

“Hahi? Gokudera-san?” Haru squeaked out. “What are you doing here?”

Unfortunately, the silver haired boy didn’t seem to register anything the two of them were saying.

“There’s no way in hell that’s true!” Gokudera yelled almost in a deranged voice, looking at Haru with a bit of horror and nausea. He held his head, throwing his black cap away to the side. “It can’t be! How did this happen? Is this how the mighty fall?”

“Gokudera-san, what are you talking about?” Haru demanded.

“Stop talking to me!” he yelled. Oh gods, were those hearts surrounding Haru? Shit, shit, he was now having love-visions or something! Did his realization somehow cause a switch to flip in his head? “The more you talk, the-the-.” more I realize just how oblivious I was to everything!

“Gokudera-kun, maybe you should sit down a little?” Tsuna suggested with a nervous chuckle. Fortunately, he didn’t look as though he was going to whip out his dynamites anytime. Now that would really result in panic mode in two more people, aka Tsuna and Haru.

The silver haired boy stopped in mental anguish and spoke blankly. “What are you two doing?”

Haru and Tsuna looked at each other before realizing just how close they were. Haru squeaked and scrambled off of Tsuna while Tsuna looked torn between being happy and being mortified at how he had basically been hugging her close to him.

Again, realization hit Gokudera like a ton of bricks.

So this was what Bianchi met.

Oh gods, he did not have the mental capacity to deal with this right now.

“A-Anyways,” Haru said with a forced cough. “What are you doing here, Gokudera-san?”

“What do you mean, what am I doing here?” he said, his eyebrow twitching with his feelings of agitation. The new discoveries were mind-boggling and he needed some time to think it over, not have the source of his problems talking to him like this! “I’m here to protect Decimo.”

“We’re at an amusement!” she said in exasperation. “What kind of dangers could we possibly get into?”

Just as those words left her lips, Haru immediately regretted them. Gokudera’s eyes were narrowed all of a sudden and she also saw Tsuna’s shoulder’s tensing up. The brown haired boy slowly got off from the ground, looking warily at a specific point in the slightly secluded area of the park.

He may not be as skilled as Hibari when it comes to fighting people, but after having endured some near-death experiences, Tsuna had become more sensitive to the feel of bloodlust.

And whoever was hiding out there was oozing with it.

“Come out already, we know you’re there!” Gokudera barked loudly, a lit cigarette already in his mouth.

There was a sinister laughter that made Haru shudder. “Impressive. I never thought a couple of kids would find my presence so fast.”

“Who the hell are you?” Gokudera demanded.

“Does that matter?” a black blur dropped down from the trees, barreling straight towards them with a speed their eyes couldn’t catch. All Haru saw was a man with three piercings on his lower lip, revolting crooked teeth, and a long slithering tongue that was dripping with saliva before she realized that his nails were abnormally long... no, wait, those weren’t nails.

They were metal claws attached to his nails!

“Haru!” she heard her name being called, from who she didn’t know.

The metal claws came descending towards her with frightening speed and she flinched, raising her hand up to protect herself from the fatal blow.

And then the blood began to flow...

AU: I forgot if Tsuna and everyone else knew where Haru lived before the TYL incident. :P memory is failing me, sadly. So just for the sake of this story, he doesn't know where she lives because there was never the opportunity to ask or even visit her.
