“D-Dino-san,” Haru squeaked with her eyes nearly popping out of her head when she saw the all-too-familiar blonde haired man on the terrace. A vibrant blush covered her cheeks when he turned to face her, the light from the sun behind him enhancing his golden locks until it appeared as though a halo was encircling his temple. It took everything in her not to turn away from him and run for the hills.

“Haru,” he greeted gently and Haru felt a nice, sizzling shudder go down her spine at the affectionate way he said her name. Ever since the wedding for Kyoko-chan and Tsuna-san, things had changed so much between them and Haru knew it had everything to do with her and not him. Dino-san never did anything to treat her too differently from before, but there were the subtle differences... the way he’d look at her with such warmth in his eyes... the subtle lilt in his voice whenever he murmured her name...

Haru didn’t think it was possible, but it felt as though the redness in her cheeks was growing even further. “W-W-What are you doing here?”

He gave her his usual charming smile. “Just dropping some paperwork off for Tsuna regarding the renewed alliance with the eastern families.”

“I-Is that so?” she squeaked.

Dino resisted the urge to chuckle, knowing he was making her very uncomfortable. Instead, his smile grew tender. “I’ve finished what I’ve come here to do, so I’ll see you around them.”

“H-Hahi,” Haru’s eyes widened once more as she instinctively took a step forward. “W-Wait!”

He tilted his head inquisitively while his wrist twitched as he restrained the urge to reach out to pull her into his arms. Haru simply did not comprehend the pull she had over him. Though he’d been as blunt as possible several weeks ago at the wedding, it seemed Haru truly didn’t understand what he’d meant when he said that he didn’t think he could keep himself away from her any longer. The fact that he’d had to physically keep a distance from her was a measure of just how difficult it was getting for him to resist the temptation...

“Happy... Happy birthday...” Haru whispered almost inaudibly, her gaze shifted to the side.

Dino stared openly at her, surprised that she’d even remembered that during her flustered state. And yet it was so like her to remember such minute details. His eyes softened and he carefully made his way towards her, his silent steps keeping her unaware of his movements.

Haru whipped her head towards him when she felt his shadow descend upon her. “H-Hahi?”

“Do I get a birthday present as well?” he inquired teasingly.

Stunned by the question, Haru spoke unthinkingly. “W-What do you want?”

Big brown eyes looked up at him so alluringly and the fact that he was now much closer to her didn’t help. He’d only intended to tease her some more, perhaps due to some private retribution for his poor self-control that was always straining itself not to give into the temptation. But now that he had a clearer look at her face and the sweet features that’d haunted him for so long, the words came tumbling out without him even meaning to. “....a kiss.”

It took a moment for his words to register in Haru’s head and by the time it did, the poor woman thought she was going to pass out. “H-H-Hahi?”

Dino wanted to cover his face at his momentary loss of self-control. He should take it back. He should really take those words back. Unfortunately, all those years of pent up frustration was now coming to a boiling point, especially after she’d said such enticing words, and he continued looking seriously at her. “A kiss.”

“B-But... I-I mean...” Haru looked around frantically, trying to see where Romario-san was. Where was he while this was all happening? However, the older man was nowhere to be found and Haru found herself looking back at the tall, blonde man with the most mesmerizing light brown eyes.

A k-kiss?

With D-Dino-san?

She’d tried so hard to convince herself that what Dino-san had said those weeks ago was her misinterpreting his words. After all, why would someone so... so amazing like Dino-san like someone like her? She was just a plain, ordinary woman from Japan whose specialty was within the research and development sector from the Vongola! Haru couldn’t fathom why Dino-san would even be remotely interested in her in a manner beyond friendship!

He was kind and considerate, a model boss amongst the many families from the underworld. Dino was well-respected, even at a young age, for his intelligence and commitment to his Famiglia. His strength and skill as a tactician was also what allowed the many clashing heads to come together during the fight against the Vindice during the Rainbow trails so many years ago. Tsuna-san may have been the one to gather everyone together in the beginning, but it was through Dino’s leadership that they’d all remained united to fight against their enemy.

There was a pause before a hand landed on her head, startling her out of her thoughts. Haru tried looking up, but Dino kept her head down, preventing her from seeing the strangled look on his face.

A fool!

He was such a fool!

He was taking advantage of her kind, sweet nature and he knew it. To think he had the audacity of demanding a kiss from her like this when he knew she was probably still taken aback by his bold declaration. Not to mention, he didn’t even know the status of her –hopefully– healing heart. Hell, he should have started off by asking that she called him simply by his name.

His heart fluttered a bit at that thought. Yes, perhaps he could still turn this around and ask that she call him just Dino from now on. That should be good enough for now... It should be enough to satisfy the craving he had so deep within him... at least for now...

“O-Okay...”

Dino’s head snapped towards her in attention. His hand on her head slackened and his arm fell to his side, but Haru remained staring at the ground. Though the redness of her face seemed to have increased exponentially, there was a determined glint in her eyes as she continued speaking.

“I-If Dino-san wants a k-k-kiss for his birthday, t-then H-Haru will give him one!” the words were rushed out before Haru clenched her eyes shut, head tilting upwards invitingly lest she abruptly changed her mind.

Internally, she wanted to cry out in confusion at this turn of events. What was she doing? How could she be so audacious? No, wait, Dino-san was the one who requested this first! But why was she even going along with this?

“I don’t think I have it in me to keep myself away any longer.”

His words stunned her and Haru lost track of how long they’d remained against each other, Dino’s temple pressed against her own. When he finally pulled away, Haru dumbly stared at him, her mind still struggling to digest what he’d revealed to her.

...only for her eyes to widen-ever so slightly when the usual composed Dino-san kept his eyes turned away from her and pinned on the nearby foliage, a dust of pink settling on his cheeks as he covered his mouth with his hand.

That image had lingered in her mind since the day of the abrupt confession and it was something she’d spent many hours trying to convince herself that she’d just imagined it. And yet, he wanted a kiss from her. She wanted, she needed, to know more...

She wanted to answer his feelings honestly...

Haru felt a hand settle on her shoulder and almost jerked up in surprise. Instead, she forced herself to remain firm. Her heart was flutteringly madly, especially when she felt the warmth of his breath brushing against her lips. It was a sharp reminder of the moment many weeks ago when he’d pressed against her, almost relishing the moment together. She felt another hand against her waist, pulling her closer to him, and almost released a squeak of surprise when felt how solid his body felt against her softer one.

She’d bumped into and had even been carried by many of the Vongola Guardians, so she knew just how strong they were compared to her... but never had she simply been pressed against a man like this. Just being held like this alone made her realize just how much stronger he was than her, the defined muscles hidden beneath his clothes and his tall stature that almost seemingly towered hers.

Something warm and soft brushed against the corner of her lips and she shuddered at the feel, releasing a timid mewl at the tender caress that made her head spin. Fingers dug slightly into her shoulder and waist and Haru hesitantly opened her eyes. She released a yelp of surprise when she was suddenly pulled forward into a tight embrace, Dino’s face buried into her hair. “D-Dino-san?”

“Just... give me a moment,” he managed to say through gritted teeth. This had been such a bad idea. It had been so tempting to just give in. She was so soft and willing, but he knew relenting was the wrong thing to do. It would be unfair to corner Haru like this, just because he so impatient. Besides, it was his fault for taking so long to let his feelings be known by her. It was his fault that he was struggling to contain his feelings and desires for her because he’d been so dumb to suppress it for so long.

A kiss would have been so sweet, but he knew it was more than just physical affection he craved from her.

It actually surprised him just how much he hungered for her.

Dino shakily soaked in the feel of her in his arms, how petite her tiny frame was compared to his own. He wanted to keep her safe and protected, to have her smiling and laughing together with him... he wanted to hold her hand, their fingers knitted together, while she happily guided him towards the unknown together... together...

Yes, that’s what he wanted. To be together with her.

Finally gathering himself, he pulled back at arm’s length from her. There was a nonplussed look on her face with a hint of concern. “Dino-san?”

Dino gave her a soft smile. “Just call me Dino from now on.”

Baby steps.

He would force himself to be patient for a while longer, to make sure this was all done properly and right.

Because she was worth the wait.

AU: Sorry Genesis fans, I had to write this first. xD yesterday was Dino's birthday and I was late! It's also a direct sequel to the January special, though I haven't decided yet if I want to make any more for this universe! Dedicated to sllebswap! Hope you liked it! ;)
