Notes

My first post on tumblr! It's the drafted sequel to 'Bargain' for Giotto x Haru that I didn't like how it turned out. I know a few were curious and now I finally have a platform to post my incompleted or 'drafted/discarded' work! :) Hopefully I'll have time to post other incompleted work or any work that I have written, but didn't have any plans on actually posting on my blog.

As for my current WIP, I'm currently working on Ambigram!

Genesis - Katekyo Hitman Reborn - Chapter 29

Summary: There was a reason why Reborn got Haru involved with the Mafia. Even if she was useless to them in fights and even if she couldn't provide as much emotional strength as Kyoko, she was vital and without her, there would just be no Vongola. G86/GiottoHaru

My lack of KHR knowledge might make some things untrue or some characters OOC!

I don't own Katekyo Hitman Reborn!

Please forgive any mistakes, both character-wise and grammatically-wise. I don't have time to re-read or edit things.

Genesis: Chapter 29

HappyFace1886

Haru trembled under the frigid gaze of Attilio-san, his black priestly clothes only adding to the menacing presence of his person. She flinched when he raised a hand towards her and kept her eyes shut, only to open them in confusion when she felt the gag removed from around her head. He reached around her to hold her by the shoulders and gently helped her sit up, holding a glass of water against her lips for her to drink.

Initially, she did not move, frozen from bewilderment and the inability to process what was going on. However, when the cool crisp water touched the tip of her tongue, she found herself eagerly accepting the refreshing liquid that poured down her throat. Attilio pulled the cup away when she choked a little, chastising words grumbled under his breath for her to take it slow.

She continued coughing a bit and breathed in a good mouthful before wiggling away from his grasp. He allowed her to do so and Haru almost fell over, saving her balance only after slamming her shoulder against the wall. She leaned against it for support and squirmed until she was seated facing him.

“What are you up to, Attilio-san?” the words came out as an angry and hoarse snarl in her native tongue, but Haru knew she had to be anything but intimidating. What a mess she must look, with her coarse hair matted with sweat and tears while her mouth was red from how tightly the gag had been tied around her. “Why are you doing this?”

“I told you that this was a dangerous path you’re walking in,” the sudden smoothness in which he spoke her homeland’s language made her gasp. It wasn’t like the forced and awkward Japanese Attilio-san had spoken previously. “The boy is a cursed demon. He will bring nothing but misfortune wherever he goes.”

Shaken out of her stupor by his assumptions, Haru regained her ire. “How dare you say something like that about Giotto-sama! You don’t know anything! No, actually, you do know what type of person he is, but you use your fear of the unknown and take it out on him! Giotto-sama has been nothing but kind to all the people around him!”

“You’ve only known him for a few months,” Attilio continued, unperturbed. “What makes you think you know him better than me, who has known him for several years?”

“You may have lived with him longer, but that doesn’t mean you know him better.” Haru yelled before she had to catch her breath in order to prevent the tears from pouring down her eyes. This wasn’t fair. Why was something like this happening? When she spoke, it came out in a small, feeble whisper. “I always believed you and him had a bond together, no matter how dysfunctional it may seem... please Attilio-san, why are you doing this?”

Attilio paused before tilting his head, the look of infuriating nonchalance never disappearing from his face. “For the good of the future.”

Adelina nearly tripped over the root jutting out of the ground. She barely paid attention to how her knees scrapped against the ground, panting hard while she forced her legs to move against the rough and uneven pathway that led to the priest’s home. There was no time to lose. She had to hurry!

She was so stupid to leave Haru alone like that! It was always implied that the villagers and the elders were up to no good when it came to her, but because of everything that was happening and because of how Haru told her of her plan to run away with Giotto... she had hoped that they’d escape without anything happening.

No... it was more like she forced the possibility of something going wrong to the recesses of her mind because everything was already too hard enough. They had been so close! So close! Haru had actually agreed on getting Giotto out of here and Giotto had even agreed on doing such a thing, but now... but now...

Her vision was getting blurry and she could feel the hot streaks down her cheeks. Adelina hastily wiped her tears away with the back of her hand, trying not to stumble on any more roots that might slow her down. This wasn’t the time to be crying. She needed to get to Giotto and let him know about this. He was always so smart and strong. He’d know what to do in order to save Haru!

She soon reached the clearing where the priest’s home was located and felt bursts of relieve threatening to overcome her when she saw the familiar structure. And then she felt her breath knocked out of her, the adrenaline in her body spiking even higher at the sight of the familiar tufts of golden hair from a distance. Her feet skid to a stop and cold sweat immediately sprung from her skin.

From afar, mesmerizing two-toned eyes stared coolly down at her.

Haru remained leaning against the wall, head tilted back while Attilio-san’s words continued to ring in her ears despite how he had already left the room. What exactly did he mean by the good of the future? Did he even realize who he was trying to hurt right now? Giotto-sama was someone who would become someone so amazing and awe-inspiring in the future.

No... not just that... it was never really just that.

Haru lifted herself up from against the wall and began squirming her way towards the edge of the bed.

Over time, she got to know Giotto-sama better and he became more to her than some amazing icon from the past.

The glass stood menacingly innocent on the desk beside her bed. As soon as she got near enough, Haru swung her body and knocked it off of the table. The glass shattered and she heard the water splatter all over the wooden floors all well.

She'd never met someone so kind and yet while holding such intense sadness within himself. He'd always watch out for her and never once lost his patience with her. Sometimes he'd confuse her, what with the way he suddenly developed an interest in helping her get dressed, or scare her, with the fox and the rabid incident... but never once did she ever feel as though he was not her friend.

There was a loud grunt and a thud as she rolled off the bed. Her arm radiated pain from the bulk of her weight falling on it, but she continued using it to worm herself around the bed.

Haru eyed the shards of glass carefully. Through the dim light, she could see her reflection through the tiny pieces. It was so hard to believe that only a few months ago, she'd been surrounded by her friends. She'd been so scared of what their future would be, but had never truly feared for her own safety and security because she had everyone with her.

With a deep, shaky breath, Haru turned around and reached out for what looked like the sharpest and thickest piece of glass.

And now, she wasn't afraid either. At first it had all been so scary, because she was all alone. However, the fear had quickly been laid to rest once she realized Giotto-sama was by her side. He'd proven to her over and over again that he wanted her beside him and that he'd never abandon her.

She bit back the whimper at how the glass bit into her skin. Thank goodness for the calluses she'd developed over time as they helped prevent the sharp edge of the broken glass from digging too deeply into her palm. Haru clenched her eyes shut and focused on sawing the ropes tied around her wrist.

Now it was her turn. It was her turn to prove the weight behind her words.

Just as Giotto-sama would never abandon her, she would prove the same to him. Making sure to return home with him wasn't enough.

She should know better. In fact, she should know better than anyone else, being from the future and all that. If she really meant to stay by Giotto-sama's side, that meant she was going to be exposed to all kinds of danger. The Vongola did not become the world's greatest organization through kindness alone. Agreeing and even promising to be by his side meant more than most people realized.

But could she do it? What could she even do? Unlike Tsuna-san and her friends, she had no great fighting ability. She wasn't calm and strategic like Bianchi-san.

....if anything, she'd always be the damsel in distress that needs saving.

The tears in her eyes had nothing to do with the blood dripping down her hands. Sniffling, Haru sawed harder. "Cut through already! Please!"

So many words of bravado that she had shouted to Attilio-san, saying she'll do everything to help Giotto-sama and at the first real challenge... she was cracking.

The future was so frightening. She had no idea of what was to befall them. Heck, she didn't even understand why Giotto-sama was here in this village in the first place! The history books she had read of the Vongola were no help at all. She had no weapons... no advantages!

She had nothing.

Haru couldnt bite back her sob this time and knew it had nothing to do with how the glass was basically tearing through her skin.

It was all completely hopeless.

"Adelina," his voice was so deep and so smooth.

A war began to rage within her at the sound of her name through his voice. Fear due to trauma that evoked nightmares... and yet love and affection from all the wonderful memories and dreams. It threatened to break her, both sides tugging at her mind in an attempt to achieve victory. He was a monster. He was an angel! He was the devil, but he was her savior.

Instead, Adelina hit her hand hard against the tree, focusing on the pain the moment she realized it was distracting her from the suffocating feelings that were erupting from her chest.

This wasn't the time for this!

"G-Giotto," she managed to say and was grateful that it was only her voice that cracked.

"You should leave," he said curtly and turned to leave.

"Wait!" She shouted as he continued to walk away. "I said wait! It's about Haru!"

Finally there was a pause, but kept presenting his back to her. Maybe to make things easier on her, she didn't know or care.

"Y-You have to save her."

She saw the stiffening of his shoulders and without even more information from her, she heard his soft whisper carried by the breeze. "The elders."

"Yes, I-I don't know where they took her, but I'm positive they're the ones! They-!" The rest of the words were trapped her in her throat as before her very eyes, the image that had haunted her for so many years began to emerge right before her.

Haunted because she hated herself for how she'd twisted something so beautiful and warm into something so hateful and cold.

Fire was surrounding Giotto, creating an ethereal glow that just simply seemed so... right. On top of his head was a glowing halo that almost seemed to symbolically represent who or what he truly was.

Adelina slumped to her knees, unable to tear her gaze away from the sight before her.

"Giotto..." she whispered almost forlornly.

He turned to her and gave her a solemn smile. "I'm sorry Adelina.... and thank you."

Attilio tilted his head in acknowledgement of the elders who gathered before him outside of the small cottage. Some of the men of the village surrounded them a few steps away. The men looked hesitant and unsure, a stark contrast to the deep heavyset frowns of the elders who stared at Attilio with grim determination.

We have the girl now,” one of the elders grunted. “Are you prepared for once the demon makes his appearance?

There’s no need for further reassurance.” Attilio murmured.

And what is that supposed to mean?” another elder demanded. Such impudence the younger folk had. Not to mention their naivety. “You said you had a way to deal with the demon and for it to work, we’d need to grab the girl first! We have her now and you dare say there’s no need for concern? What is your plan? Now that we have the girl, who knows how the demon will react?

There was a ripple of soft murmurs amongst the men behind them, particularly ones that appeared concerned and even fearful. The elders, on the other hand, had a look of pure malice and terror. One of the elders, who held a heavy wooden cane, smacked the edge hard onto the ground.

Benevolent father,” he began cordially, though Attilio heard the heavy frost in his words. “Just what is it that you have done?

I have done nothing more than sealed the fate of the demons.

“...demons?” one of the men hesitantly questioned. “There is more than one of them?

Attilio softly smiled, placing his hands behind him. He looked above the men that surrounded him and felt the edges of his lips tugging upward at the sight of the figure standing further down the path way. There was a glowing flame on the head of the young blonde haired boy with those intense sharp eyes that seemed to see through all.

The men and elders followed Attilio’s gaze and there were cries of fear as the men scrambled away to create more distance from the approaching boy. With each step Giotto took, it was as though there was soft current of power that gently brushed against the leaves and grass nearby. The elders fearfully eyed the swaying foliage, the men and elders both inching closer to Attilio for safety.

Yes...” Attilio murmured, enjoying the displeased look in Giotto’s eyes. “Let the exorcism begin, shall we?

AUUgh... okay I was planning on writing a lot more due to the upcoming 3-day weekend, but something came up and so I only have what I wrote last weekend. I did try to make a short 'intermission' drabble filled with GiottoxHaru fluff to make up for it though! Also, if it makes you guys feel better, after this chapter, there'll probably be a ton of more GiottoxHaru fluff... I think? xD

  3. I love how you write Haru. You're keeping her thoughts and actions very real to her situation. She's conflicted but determined and hates that she's so hopeless (awwww haru you aren't hopeless! we believe in you! reborn clearly believes in you!).

Have I mentioned before how much I love the subtle comparisons of Giotto to a...ahhh how do I word this...a deity? Adelina's reactions to him: awe for his power, love because he saved her and fear because he's clearly not h u m a n in her eyes but something supernatural.

Really great update! Can't wait to read how this plays out.

    1. :D Yay, thanks for noticing. I try really hard so that she doesn't get some sort of superpower or that she ends up being loved by everyone for absolutely no reason. I want her to grow as a person and become the great person that she was meant to become :)

Haha, Giotto is indeed... otherworldly. Just listening to the tales in the manga seems to imply that he was an amazing person and I want to live up to those descriptions, as limited as they may be :D

      Thanks for the review!
