Summary: March special for DinoxHaru / D86
My lack of KHR knowledge might make some things untrue or some characters OOC!
I don't own Katekyo Hitman Reborn!
Please forgive any mistakes, both character-wise and grammatically-wise. I don't have time to re-read or edit things.
AU: Whew! Made it just in time. I'm slowly trying to pull myself free from my stupid writer's block/head cold. Sorry for this sounds awkward. I'm finally free of my cold at least! Unfortunately, my work is picking up and I might be busy for a bulk of April. I'm still hoping I can squeeze in another thing before this month ends. Fingers crossed! ...especially since I only have 2 days until this month ends, haha.
For once, it's Haru who falls in love first and not the other way around! xD

March Special
HappyFace1886
“C’mon,
just one drink? I promise we’ll have a good time, Haru-chan!” Haru internally
groaned at how persistent the guy was. She’d tried her best to be discreet and
kind when she told him that she wasn’t interested and only saw him as a sempai
from her college club activities, but he just wouldn’t take the hint! Failing
on all that, she’d been as blunt as possible, but it’d only made him even more
determined to get a date from her.
“S-Sempai, I told you, it’s Miura-san and I’m very flattered, but I’m sorry!
I’m just not interested you in that way,” all propriety was lost after he’d
followed her from campus all the way to the city! The fact that she was even
tolerating this to this level was amazing enough. She squeaked when he grabbed
her by the arm, pulling her back before she was able to enter the nearby café.
Hahi! So close!
“Now how can you say that when you haven’t even
given me a chance? Neh, Haru-chan?”
the sempai gave her a cute little pout. She knew part of his persistence
despite having been rejected was due to how popular he was. He wasn’t used to
being rejected and even during the handful of times that he was, he was always
able to charm the pants off the girl into giving him at least one chance. And
honestly, Haru did like him (well, at least she did before until today)... but
only as a sempai!
Haru twitched when he smiled at her, his light
green eyes twinkling in an attractive manner that normally had the other ladies
swooning. Maybe in the past she’d been swept away by his prince-charming good
looks, but due to the odd variety of friends she had (most of them actually
being rather exotically striking and handsome), Haru found that she was pretty
immune to the now average looking appearances of her classmates.
...not that she was any better looking than them
though.
“I said it’s Miura-san! Please! I don’t like you that way!” she said through gritted
teeth, trying to convey her displeasure as much as possible with the scowl on
her face. Unfortunately for her, it only looked more endearing in the sempai’s
eyes, who smiled cheekily at her.
“But that’s not a good enough answer when you
haven’t even given me a chance,” he ignored her outraged sputter and gave her a
one-shoulder shrug. “Just one reason. Give me one good reason why I should give
up on you. Aren’t you being the one extra cruel to me? I only suggested going
out on one date with me.”
The fact that he was trying to shift the blame on
her made Haru want to kick him in the shin. How dare he try to make her the bad
one in all this! “B-B-Because I already have a boyfriend!”
There was a pause, her sempai’s eyes widening in
disbelief while Haru was internally berating herself for saying such an
outrageous lie. Okay, so, yes, she didn’t have a boyfriend. It just came out
instinctively because of how many times she’d spouted out such a similar thing
during her middle school years. Granted, it was more along the lines of a
‘future boyfriend/husband’ due to her hardcore crush with a certain mafia heir,
but (oh god!), did such passé habits have to appear at the worst time
available?!
“B-B-Boyfriend?” the sempai was the one
sputtering instead. “Since when do you have a boyfriend?”
“S-Since college!” she sputtered back. “W-We
started going out after I graduated high-school!”
It was a lie. A complete lie! But one that
accidentally came out since the reason why she was heading to the café in the
first place was to meet up with Tsuna-san who’d arrived from Italy a few days
ago! Not to mention, it was after high school when she was finally able to let
go of her feeling towards him. It had been the start of a new chapter of her
life and combined with the fact that she was meeting him again was why she’d
accidentally blurted out that time period for her current imaginary,
non-existent boyfriend.
“I-I don’t get to see him a lot since he’s not
really from this country.”
Another lie! A bad lie! But, again, one that
accidentally came out since if you technically counted Tsuna-san’s heritage, it
would go all the way back to Italy... Oh god, why was she even thinking about
Tsuna-san? How could she impose upon him of something as ridiculous as this?
Why couldn’t she just shut up already?
“S-So I mostly talk to him by phone or letters!”
...not exactly a lie this time, because she did
message Tsuna-san and the others by phone and letters. It wasn’t as frequently
as she’d like it, but it wasn’t a lie that she didt talk to them... but still
technically a lie since she didn’t have a boyfriend!
Her sempai then narrowed his eyes, taking in her
flustered appearance. “...I think you’re lying.”
Haru almost whipped her head up at him in shock,
but managed to refrain herself from doing so. Behaving like that it would just
make it even more obvious that she wasn’t telling the truth! “I-I’m telling the
truth. I-In fact, I’m here to see him right now!”
She began to mentally rain a thousand apologies
to Tsuna-san’s way right now. Hahi! They hadn’t seen each other for so long and
she was already doing something ridiculous to him! Tsuna-san was kind and
considerate, so there was no way he wouldn’t help her out, but this might get
in the way of his chances with Kyoko-chan!
Hahi! Could she do nothing right?
“Oh really? Why don’t we go inside and take a
look at this boyfriend of yours?”
Haru felt her temper flaring at the sempai’s
audacity to interrogate her when he was the one harassing her. Before she could
snappily say something she’d regret later, the door to the café opened, a small
jingle from the bell on top turning both her and the sempai’s attention to the
entrance. Haru’s eyes widened when she saw who it was.
Golden blonde hair, styled in a wild yet
bedazzling manner, glowed under the light of the dimming sun. Light brown eyes
were narrowed disapprovingly, staring almost in an intimidating manner at the
hand that was tightly clutching onto Haru’s arm. For once, instead of dressed
in his usual casual manner with a dark green parka, he wore a clean cut black
suit that only seemed to enhance the regal air that surrounded him.
“D-Dino-nii,” Haru breathed out, stunned by his
current sharp appearance as she was too accustomed to seeing him so happy and
carefree. Like a big brother always watching over the little ones. W-What was
he doing here anyways? She was supposed to be meeting Tsuna-san today!
“Y-You know this guy, Haru-chan?” her sempai
squawked at her. Sweet little Miura Haru with this intimidating, tall
foreigner?
“I said its Miura-san to you!” Haru instinctively snapped and pulled at the arm still
captive under her sempai’s tight grip. She really was at her breaking point,
her foot itching to kick him on the shin right about now. “Let go of me!”
“I think you should listen to Haru-chan and let
her go,” Dino spoke mildly, almost in an unassuming manner. He hadn’t moved an
inch from the door since he’d made his appearance, but the sempai instinctively
took a step back. There was something weird about this gaijin, something that made the hair in the back of his neck to
stand.
“W-Why? Are you the big, scary boyfriend she was
talking about?” the sempai cockily tried to retort.
Haru’s face turned a shade of flaming red. She’d
just about had it with this guy! Screw manners! Her leg pulled back and took
aim for the sempai’s vulnerable shin when a hand gently grabbed her by the
shoulder and pulled back. Off balance due to being on one leg, she willingly
stumbled backwards and found herself pressed against a warm solid chest with an
arm wrapped protectively around her. She felt the rumble of his voice against
her back as Dino-nii spoke carefully from behind her.
“Yes, in fact, I am her big, scary boyfriend.”
Dino said with a razor sharp smile, leaning forward slightly so that the sempai
could have a better look at the growing displeasure in his brown eyes. “So if
you would please let go of her arm.”
Pride prevented the sempai from immediately
letting go of Haru’s arm, but instinct and self-preservation won in the end.
The sempai internally shuddered, cold sweat trailing down the back of his neck
as the brown eyes of the gaijin
seemed to trail after him carefully. It was the look of a man who’d set his
sights on his target. Not even a potential rival, but weak, meaningless prey
that’d simply had the misfortunate of falling under the line of vision of a
hunter. He gave the blonde haired man one final scowl before stalking away.
Haru’s heart thundered in her chest as she
watched the sempai walking away. It wasn’t until he was well out of her sights
when she realized she was still being held within Dino-nii’s arm. The blush on
her face deepened and she lacked the courage to look up at him.
How mortifying to be rescued from something like
this...
“Are you okay, Haru-chan?” his voice sounded so
warm and reassuring.
She didn’t trust herself to speak and gave him a
muted nod instead.
“Is that guy someone you know? Is he frequently
bothering you like this?” Dino continued carefully, not wanting to scare or
embarrass her any further than she was already.
“N-No, he’s just a harmless sempai from
school...” Haru murmured bashfully, her eyes glued to the floor. She should...
She should tell him that it was okay to let go of her now, but the words were
trapped in her throat. The quickness of breath, the inability to think
coherently... the symptoms were something all too familiar to her, but this
couldn’t be right! This was Dino-nii she was thinking about! “H-He was just a
little more persistent today.”
“I see,” as her eyes were still turned away from
him, Haru missed the darkening of his usual gentle eyes. She did, however,
notice how Dino’s hold around her seemed to tighten around her briefly,
inundating her even more with the heady masculine scent of his cologne and
something that could only be described as Dino-nii’s scent.
“Um... excuse me...” there was a polite, muffled
murmur from behind. The two glanced behind them to see patrons of the café
looking puzzled at how the two were standing in front of the door, blocking it
from those who wanted to leave.
Haru’s mortification tripled at how she was not
only inconveniencing Dino-nii with the stupid situation with her sempai, but
complete, random strangers. She quickly turned around and pressed her hands
against Dino-nii’s chest, pushing him gently back until he was leaning against
the wall so that there was enough space for the other customers to leave. Once
they were gone, she sighed in relief and looked up, the redness of her cheeks
returning with a vengeance when she saw Dino-nii looking down at her with such
sweet, gentle eyes glowing with affectionate amusement. She had basically
pinned him against the wall, her body plastered intimately against him.
“H-Hahi!”
He chuckled and placed a hand on her head. “Let’s
go inside, shall we?”
“O-Okay,” Haru quickly moved away to provide some
space between them. T-This was definitely not good for her heart. No, it was
not. “I-I’m happy to see you, b-but I thought I was going to see Tsuna-san
today?”
“Tsuna got a call for a last minute meeting, so
he was hoping he could reschedule with you.” He explained, opening the door to
the café for her.
“E-Eh? B-But why didn’t he call or text me
instead? D-Dino-nii must be busy as well!” it was hard for her to not stammer,
especially when she could feel the warmth of his hand on her lower back.
His light chuckle made her look up at him and the
pounding of her heart grew at the sight. This feeling... she hadn’t felt it
since all those years ago when a silly boy with crazed eyes had jumped into the
river after her, pulling her out from the heavy armor that was dragging her
down to the depths of the water.
Dino smiled warmly at her. “I wanted to see you,
Haru-chan.”
Words left her as the truth hammered down at her
from above.
Oh god, she’d fallen in love with Dino-nii....
