“Wah, he’s insane!” thirteen year old Dino cried as he huddled beneath the towering tree. The air was freezing as winter had descended upon them and Dino shivered, having rushed out of his family manor before having had a chance to think things through. Not that that was really his fault. Reborn was the idiot who was trying to throw him inside a tank of sharks for some reflex and speed training! “I’m going to die for something I don’t even want.”

This was so unfair. He didn’t want to become the boss of the Chiavarone Family and it wasn’t like he’d wanted this position in the first place! Why did he have to born as the heir to a mafia family of all things? Why couldn’t he have been born into a normal family with normal responsibilities?

Dino sniffled a little before sneezing. Great, now he was going to freeze to death outside. His choices were both morbid. Either go back and get mauled by a shark or die of hypothermia. He shivered. Both sounded equally unpleasant.

He stubbornly held out for a few moments before the urge to cry started all over again. He didn’t want to go back, but he didn’t want to die out here either! Ahh-!

POOF!

His eyes widened and he turned his head towards the source of the sound, a cloud of white smoke appearing around a small petite figure who appeared to be sitting down on her knees on the snow covered ground. A foreigner? He blinked, taking in the sight of the young Asian woman sitting before him, an equally confused look on her face.

“H-Hahi?” she squeaked and looked around, her short brown hair shaking around wildly as she took in her surroundings. “W-Where am I?”

Dino stiffened when her soft brown eyes turned to him. Doe-like eyes widened when she saw him.

“D-Dino-nii?” she breathed out and he froze even more.

How did she know his name? What the heck did –nii mean?! Wait, calm down, she might have said something else. She was speaking in another language and maybe there was a word that sounded like his name?

“W-Who are you?” he stammered, though his actual question in his head was more along the lines of ‘what are you?’ It wasn’t normal for a pretty lady to randomly appear out of thin air like that! Dino then shivered when a breeze blew by. Gah, he’d forgotten how cold it was because of the lady’s abrupt appearance. He wrapped his arms around himself, rubbing his arms for some warmth, and jumped when he felt something warm envelope around him.

He looked up and saw that the woman had shed her thick brown coat, wrapping it around him instead. Beneath it, she was wearing a thin green sweater. No way was that going to protect her from the cold! “I-I’m okay! You don’t have to-.”

She shook her head vehemently. “No, you’ll get sick at this rate.”

Dino looked at her, startled when he realized she was speaking in Italian now. He quickly recovered and then pulled the jacket off, trying to hand it back to her. “N-No, I can’t accept this.”

“You have to!”

“I won’t!”

“You’ll get sick!”

“Y-You’ll get sick too!” he yelled back, taken aback by how stubborn the lady was.

“Fine, then don’t complain about what I’m going to do next.” She quickly wore the coat and forcibly pulled him towards her, holding him close against her while she buttoned up the coat so that they were both wearing it at the same time. The strange woman kept her arms wrapped around him and he could practically see her triumphed smile from behind. “There, we’ll both be warm now.”

The lady was like a tornado and Dino remained immobile, his mind frantically trying to catch up to what just happened. It also didn’t help just how intimately close they were now and, god, she was pressed very close to his back. His young teenage mind was going into overdrive when he swore he felt a pair of something soft and round pressed against him.

“Are you okay?” her hot breath bushed against his ear and he shivered for a completely different reason this time.

“I-I’m fine!” he all but yelped, definitely feeling a lot warmer now. “Who are you anyways? Where did you come from?”

“Well... my name is Haru,” she began softly. “What’s your name?”

“D-Dino,” he stammered out and thanked whatever heavenly being resided above them as he managed to shut his mouth before he said anymore. The name of his family was infamous within the area. It made his chest tighten to even imagine the look of disgust and fear on this nice, albeit strange, lady’s face if she were to learn of his identity. “J-Just Dino.”

“What were you doing out here by yourself, Dino-kun? You would have froze to death if you stayed out here for too long,” there was a gentle reprimand in the way she spoke and Dino blushed.

“I... no... you wouldn’t understand,” he mumbled. Really, the last thing he wanted to do was to scare this lady off. Even if she was a little strange, it was nice to be doted on like this after all the craziness that’d occurred with Reborn’s appearance as his 'home tutor'.

“Try me,” her tone was a bit teasing this time and Dino couldn’t stop the small smile from forming. “I’ve seen many strange things in my life. I’m sure yours won’t be too unusual.”

He laughed a bit nervously. “I’m not so sure about that.”

"It's always nice to talk to a... stranger about things that frustrates or scares you," she hesitated at the word as though it was an odd concept to her. "I promise I won't judge."

Her judging him wasn't the issue, Dino thought. The problem was that she'd probably run off screaming and calling him crazy and delusional if he told her the truth. But maybe it was because of how warm she was and the comforting way she spoke, Dino hesitantly began to speak of how his family and of how his father had fallen ill, subsequently leadng to the arrival of his terrifying tutor. In hindsight, he could have fibbed about having mafia ties and just said Reborn was a normal tutor, but the truth somehow came tumbling out of his mouth.

"A-And I can't become something as scary as a mafia boss!" He cried out, wanting to tear up all over again at the thought. Dino felt Haru comfortingly pressing her cheek against the top of his head and the warmth that exuded from her promptly melted him. He leaned back against her unabashedly and enjoyed her sweet feminine scent. "Y-You think they're all crazy too, don't you?"

"...well," Haru trailed off.

Dino was gobsmacked by her reluctant answer. Nevermind that she wasn't fazed about his revelation of his family business, but she actually agreed with all the crazy people around him?!

"It's scary, I know," she began quickly when she felt his tense form. "But... But I believe Dino-kun is destined for greatness and that you'll be an amazing, dependable man beloved by his Famiglia and allies."

"B-B-!" Was this nice lady insane as well?!

"It's okay to take it slow," she murmured gently and she tighten her hold around him, causing his cheeks to flush further. "Reborn-san may seem terrifying, but he does his job well and knows what he's doing."

Despite their limited space due to Haru's coat keeping them intimately pressed to each other, Dino managed to wiggle around to face her, wanting to look her straight in the face to see if she was joking about all this. His cheeks steamed when he realized how close their faces were to each other, but he was more startled by the absolute faith in her eyes. They've known each other for less than fifteen minutes and yet she believed in him more than he did himself.

"You're going to be a wonderful boss, Decimo," there was a sparkle in her eyes, a hidden mirth and affection Dino didn't understand. But what he did know was that seeing that look made his heart flutter and the fact that he might make that expression fade into disappointment absolutely terrified him. And as though knowing what was going through his head, Haru leaned forward to press her forehead against his. "Trust your Famiglia, Dino-kun, and trust yourself. No one is perfect at anything at first. What matters in the end is how you pick yourself up."

"Will you be there as part of my Famiglia?" The words stumbled out instinctively and while Dino's heart was now racing at having said such a bold question to a literal stranger, he couldn't bring himself to regret them. For some reason, he didn't want to lose this mesmerizing woman. If anything, he wanted to prove her right, to let her see him become the man she believed he was to become.

"I'll be a part of Dino-kun's family as long as you will have me." Haru said with a light giggle and pulled back. Her face then suddenly lit up. "Hahi!  A mistletoe!"

Dino's eyes goggled as he looked up. An actual mistletoe was hanging off of the tree. He knew he was still in Chiavarone territory, but what was a Christmas decoration doing out here? Not to mention, it was obviously a Christmas ornament because of the festive red ribbon wrapped on the obviously plastic plant. His face then abruptly looked back towards her.

W-Would she-?!

There was a playful smile on her face,  a mischievous twinkle adding to the alluring gaze of her cat-like eyes. Dino clamped his eyes shut, far from protesting but too mortified to actually do anything. He felt her tremble slightly due to her laughter before something soft and warm brushed against his cheek.

"Merry Christmas, Dino-kun," her sweet voice whispered into his ears and right when he thought he was going to faint, there was a loud popping noise before a sharp chill instantly surrounded him.

Dino's eyes flung open and he gawked at the tree Haru had been leaning against while holding him. H-Had it all been a dream? His hand cautiously reached out to touch his cheek and felt what had to be lipstick smudged on his cheek.

It wasn't a dream? But where had Haru come from and where did she go?

He wildly shook his head and immediately began running back to the manor. No, this wasn't the time for that. He had to go back! He had to complete Reborn's tutoring and become the man Haru believed he can be. And then... and then...

Dino's ears flushed at the memory of her sweet smile.

He'd find her. One way or another.

Dino caught sight of his home and immediately rushed inside, briefly greeting the men stationed outside. They apppear startled by his appearance and it was obvious they'd been worried, but there was no time to explain as Dino rushed into the room his father had specifically built for his tutelage with Reborn.

The door was slammed open and Dino boldly entered. "I'm back Reborn! I'm ready to take on any challenge that you can throw at-what the hell is that?!"

The young infant turned around, a seemingly innocent smile on his face as he held a lit blow torch. "Ah, you're finally here. I was just putting the finishing touches to your upgraded reflex and speed training."

Dino paled at the sight of what appeared to be a deranged obstacle course. The shark was still there, placed in tank in the midst of the path. Apparently escaping the shark was now just one of the many difficult challenges on the course, which included a series of flaming hoops he was obviously expected to jump through and a vat filled with wasps for additional speed and reflex training.

"Well then," Reborn's smile seemed to grow. "Let's see your dying will this time."

"I... uh..." memories of Haru hazily came to mind, but fear overcame it all as Dino turned around and hightailed it out of there.

This was insane! They were all insane!!

Subsequently, it wouldn't be until a few years pass by when young Dino finally inherited the title of Haneuma Dino.

POOF!

"Hahi!"

"Haru!" the young woman let out a startled gasp as strong arms abruptly pulled her up from the floor before enveloping her tightly. She was pulled back at arms length and found herself staring into concerned light brown eyes. "Are you okay?"

Dino thought his heart had stopped when he'd heard that she'd been hit by the latest time traveling weapon developed by the Bovino Famiglia, especially when he'd learned that no one knew when exactly Haru would return. His eyes roved all over her, making sure there wasn't a single blemish on her skin, and nearly sagged with relief when he found her perfectly fine. Dino released the breath he didn't even realize he'd been holding before pulling Haru back into his arms.

She was safe, his lady Chiavarone had returned in one piece. Everything was fine.

Haru remained still, listening to the sound of Dino's thundering heart, before slowly reaching upward to wrap her arms around his larger frame. She closed her eyes, savoring the feel of his embrace before giggling quietly.

"Dino really was a cute child."

He pulled back, looking confused. Normally the Bovino time traveling gadgets consisted of switching places with their counterpart of that time. Haru had simply disappeared with no such substitute, terrifying many that they'd destroyed some secret physics law that'd yet to be discovered. And Dino certainly never remembered meeting her! Then again, he'd certainly taken many blows to the head while under Reborn's care...

Haru gave him a playful smile. "I hope our children end up as cute as Dino was!"

His eyes widened. A child was one thing, but did Haru just hint that she wanted more than one? "E-Eh? Haru, what are you saying?"

She grabbed onto the front of the shirt of her boyfriend of two years, bringing him closer to her so that her breath mingled with his. "I'm saying kiss me. You owe me one since the last one was interrupted."

Though still thoroughly confused, Dino was never one to deny a kiss from Haru. In fact, he took it upon himself to surprise her with random kisses throughout the day, addicted to the sweetness of her lips and the alluring sounds she'd make. His eyes gleamed with affection as he tilted her chin up, leaning closer as he whispered. "Welcome back, Haru."
